Did a shoot with Marti Domination, one of the stars of Matthew Barney’s “Cremaster Cycle”. We interviewed her talking about dreams. I wanted a Marlene Dietrich sort of look for the interview. The director thought I should shoot it in color “just in case” but I won him over. You really have to commit to a look sometimes.

It was the same way with shooting widescreen but also framing for standard 4×3 TV. You can do this to an extent but eventually you fail because all versions are compromised, and not one of the formats gets a perfect composition. If one shoots black and white one needs to light for black and white, it demands a much different approach.
